International Committee

Purpose 

To lead PMA's involvement in ICOSPA and assess members to determine international business interests.

Scope

  • To determine how PMA can best serve the international interests of member companies by focusing on international business issues, opportunities and trends.

  • To analyze member feedback and recommend action steps to PMA's Board of Directors.

  • To promote PMA's participation in ICOSPA (the International Council of Sheet Metal Pressworking Associations) and ICOSPA Congresses.

Key Projects

  • Gauge member interest in attending international events such as trade shows
  • Gauge member interest in PMA organizing international study missions
  • Plan international study missions and events based on member feedback
  • Work with the 2008 ICOSPA Congress Steering Committee to determine preliminary plans for PMA-hosted 2008 ICOSPA Conference to be held in the U.S.

Past Projects and Accomplishments

  • November 2007 — Co-hosted first-ever Conference on Metalforming in China with PMA Stamping Division in Cleveland, Ohio with 70 attendees.
  • January 2007—conducted survey of members regarding China and other low cost countries
  • July 2006—conducted survey of members regarding India and other low cost countries
  • Successfully promoted participation in the 15th International Congress on Sheet Metal Work held October 30-November 2, 2005, in Tokyo and Nagoya, Japan. There were 35 attendees from PMA at the Congress
  • Study Mission—September 2005—nearly 30 attendees went to Guangzhou and Shenzhen, in conjunction with the Mould & Die Asia show
  • In April 2005 conducted survey of members yielding information on future study missions
  • In September 2004 conducted survey of members yielding information on members' experience with foreign competition, offshore tooling, joint ventures and other international interests
  • Study Mission—May 2004—nearly 30 members traveled to Shanghai and the Die & Mould Asia show
  • November 2003—PMA hosted its first China Study Mission. Nearly 20 members traveled to Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Shanghai and Beijing
