Activities

  1. Ask your students to go to the library, look in the help wanted section of an out-of-town Sunday newspaper, and count jobs listed under tool & die and the metalforming processes mentioned in this program.
  2. Have your students look around their houses and list things that might be metalformed.
  3. Contact a nearby metalforming facility (visit PMA’s web site at www.metalforming.com for a list of member companies in your area) to arrange a plant tour and have your students write a report on what they saw.

METALFORM, the premier trade show for the precision metal stamping and fabricating industries, is sponsored annually by Precision Metalforming Association.  Each year at METALFORM, Student Day is a special opportunity for students, accompanied by their instructors, school administrators, parents, and other adult supervisors, to meet and talk with leading-edge exhibitors and see the latest state-of-the-art equipment demonstrations. Exhibitors display technology, information, and ideas, targeted for the metalforming, and fabricating industries.

Student participation begins with a short orientation by representatives of PMA, the metalforming industry trade association, and its member companies.  Participants view a video and receive literature describing career opportunities in the industry.  Each instructor also receives a free Student Ambassador Program, including the video and support literature, for use in promoting career opportunities back at the group's school.  After the orientation, student groups are led to the show floor for a self-guided tour, directed by a list of designated "Student Friendly" exhibitors and others where "technology at work" is demonstrated.

Thank you for your continued efforts to educate America’s future workforce!
