The PMA Wisconsin District is excited to kick off the 2012 season with a tour of Broan-NuTone LLC headquartered in Hartford, WI. The company employs more than 3,200 people in eight countries on three continents. It is North America’s largest producer of residential ventilation products such as range hoods, ventilation fans and indoor air quality products. Broan-NuTone holds major market positions in chimes, central vacuums, intercom systems, medicine cabinets, built-in electric heaters, whole-house fans, attic ventilators, paddle fans, ironing centers, trash compactors and speakers.
The Hartford location houses vertically integrated manufacturing of range hoods, bath fans and utility fans. The company has a blend of highly automated and traditional manufacturing. The facility is approximately 500,000 square feet, with nearly 500 operations employees, and is the primary distribution center for North American operations.
What You’ll See:
Fabrication Area – Supplying the factory’s needs for sheetmetal components, the press department houses eight coil-fed fully automatic stamping lines ranging from 100 to 300 tons running progressive dies and five manually fed presses from 60 to 150 tons. In addition, the brake department utilizes two CNC turret presses, one CNC laser, seven press brakes and one wing former. The facility processes 20,000 tons of raw materials annually, of which 50% is galvanized, 40% cold-rolled, 6% stainless and 4% aluminum.
Automated Range Hood Manufacturing – In a continuous flow of fabrication, finishing and assembly, the range hood System can build any of 350 catalog items from coil to carton in less than 2 hours.
Automated Economy Fan Line – The economy fan line can produce as many as 600 units per hour and converts coils of galvanized steel into boxed finished goods in about 4 minutes.
Semi-Automated Deluxe Bath Fan Line (Time Permitting) – An automated forming and clinching machine feeds universal housings directly to a manual, mixed model, assembly line to produce 120 variations of Broan’s quietest bath fan models.
