| Tennessee District: METCOM Inc. Plant Tour | |
| 6:00 PM-8:00 PM (METCOM Inc., 2178 Fisk Rd., Cookeville, TN 38506) | |
| Join the PMA Tennessee District for a tour of the METCOM Inc. facility located in Cookeville, TN. The plant opened in 1977 solely as a spinning shop in a 60,000 square foot facility. In 1984, the first press for stamping and deep drawing was added. After several expansions and relocations, METCOM Inc. now operates in a 114,000 square foot building on 15 acres. METCOM uses a combination of deep drawing, spinning and stamping, which permits a vast range of products manufactured in the most efficient and economical way available. Because of its minimal tooling cost and extremely fast turnaround, spinning is the method of choice for lower production and limited runs. It is ideal for forming complex shapes. METCOM also has the capability of stamping and deep drawing products for higher production runs. In some cases, it is possible to combine the spinning and stamping processes to minimize cost. The addition of laser cutting has improved quality, delivery, and material utilization while providing flexibility and an avenue for innovation. The catered dinner will provide an opportunity for a presentation on METCOM’s data driven approach to prioritize continuous improvement efforts, corrective and preventive actions. Information from production, quality, and sales is combined and analyzed to help set the direction for the upcoming year. We look forward to hosting the tour and sharing ideas to help American manufacturing stay competitive.
