Steel Imports Down Slightly in February; Levels Remain High Overall

CLEVELAND, OH—March 27, 2012—Precision Metalforming Association (PMA) President William E. Gaskin called February’s persistently strong levels of flat-rolled steel imports further indication that 2012 heralds steadier business activity for middle-market manufacturers than the volatility of the preceding three years. According to preliminary data issued by the U.S. Department of Commerce, total steel imports dropped 4% in February to 2,439,144 metric tons, down from 2,553,297 metric tons in January.
