EVENT DETAILS

This program will establish sound fundamentals with an in-depth clarification useful for entry-level as well as advanced toolroom personnel and designers. It will provide formulas and proven troubleshooting methods for addressing current tooling problems and applying them to future failure prevention in a variety of stamping applications.

  • Establish commonly used tooling terminology.
  • Identify and understand the benefits of using the optimum punch-to-die clearance.
  • Address slug control (jamming and pulling) concerns.
  • Compare various types of punch and die retention methods and stripper options.
  • Provide formulas on how to optimize pierce and shave operations.
  • Offer selection of tool steels, their heat treatment, and application of surface treatments.
  • Cover recommendations for punch and die sharpening and maintenance.
  • Provide troubleshooting tips and tooling-failure analysis.

This course will help reduce downtime, improve productivity and cut tooling cost.  Attendees are welcome to bring samples or drawings for discussion.

Who Should Attend:  Stamping production and toolroom supervisors, die build and maintenance personnel, tooling designers, and production press operators with all levels of experience.

Nick Tarkany, Application Specialist, Metalforming Solutions, LLC
Nick has more than 30 years of hands-on experience as a die maker, production supervisor, QC manager, and director of research in stamping technologies. He is an expert in troubleshooting tooling failures, addressing heat treat issues and improving the effectiveness of surface treatments. Nick works as a consultant for die and tool building, pressroom training, tool troubleshooting, and improving metalforming and fabricating applications with metallurgical-analysis capabilities.
