next event

Tuesday, June 26, 2018 - Wednesday, June 27, 2018
Cleveland, OH

EVENT DETAILS

Learn to properly identify and specify metals. Discover science-based tools for solving problems and gain an understanding of how higher-strength materials impact the press shop. Use basic mechanical properties as the key to forming capability, why sheetmetals today have greatly improved capability and consistency, and create a win-win partnership with your metal supplier.

Topics:

  • Properties and characteristics of common sheet alloys used in metal stampings
  • Language of sheetmetal forming
  • Determining forming severity with forming-limit diagrams
  • Smooth transition from tryout to production parts
  • Approaches to problem solving

Program Highlights

Sheetmetal Types and Tests – Day 1

  • How sheetmetal production influences stamping performance
  • Differences between common sheet alloys used in metal stampings
  • Sheetmetal formability characterization: hardness and tensile testing
  • How sheetmetal selection impacts joining method: welding, riveting and adhesive bonding

Forming Sheetmetal – Day 2

  • Dimensional challenges
  • Lubrication and friction
  • Determining forming severity with forming limit diagrams
  • Practices for smooth production launch and throughout part life
  • Problem solving to improve stamping performance
