The PMA Tennessee District partnered with the Society of Manufacturing Engineers Nashville Chapter (SME43) to hold its 2022 Spring fundraising golf outing on Monday, May 9, at Hermitage Golf Club in Old Hickory, Tennessee.
PMA-hosted golf outings are always a success; however, several new developments took place at this year’s outing. First, the newly expanded field allowed for an additional morning shotgun, making this year’s event a four-flight tournament. In addition, the night before the outing, an awards reception was held at the Sonesta hotel, where Perry Hytken, District Chair, recognized the winners of the district’s spring grant and scholarship efforts. More than 70 people were in attendance. $9,000 in grants were awarded during the reception and another $5,000 in scholarships. The Tool and Die apprenticeship grant winners were North American Stamping Group, Quality Metal Stamping, and Truform Manufacturing. In addition, college grants were awarded to Middle Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, and T-Tech. Also, new this year, the Tennessee district took part in the PMA Educational Foundation District Scholarship program. As a result, $5,000 in scholarships were awarded to five students across Tennessee, including high school students, which was also a first for the district.
On the second day on the course, nearly 400 golfers participated in the four-flight tournament, including PMA President David Klotz and past chairs Troy Turnbull and Ron Lowery. Tim Hall from San Giacomo Presses North America sang the Star-Spangled Banner to kick off the event, which attendees thoroughly enjoyed. During the tournament, golfers had several opportunities to win prizes in multiple contests, including putting contests, closest to the pin, longest drive, and raffles.
Following the tournament, the district recognized the host of long-standing and next-generation district officers who volunteered to help pull off the massive event together without a hitch. Special recognition was given to Ty McCoy, PMA Tennessee Golf Co-Chair.
