PMA MAD Pulls Off Plant Tour Extravaganza

On April 19, the PMA Mid-Atlantic District hosted not one, but two plant tours. It’s crazy, but when you’re nicknamed PMA MAD, you have a certain reputation to uphold!

How did they pull it off? By holding concurrent tours of Solar Atmospheres and Vulcan Spring in the morning and afternoon, with a networking lunch sandwiched in between!

More than 50 attendees spent the day immersed in technology and wonder. Solar Atmospheres specializes in high-quality commercial vacuum heat treating and cryogenic processing to -320°F, and provided insight into complex post-process metallurgical challenges that manufacturers have to overcome in providing critical components.

Vulcan Spring took attendees on an “Aha” journey, starting with a display of seemingly simple everyday retail and industrial products, and then shifted to the highly complicated and integrated processes that enable the products to be…well…simple.

At the networking lunch, held at Indian Valley Country Club, attendees were treated to a gourmet lunch buffet and PMA’s 2023 Chair Jeff Aznavorian as the keynote speaker.

 Meet the District Officers

With so many moving parts and intricate details, a successful event required precise timing and coordination. The PMA MAD officers pulled it off without a hitch, which is impressive given that this was only the second event organized by the young and imaginative district. It’s been barely a year since the district was formally launched, with volunteer officers who are somewhat new to PMA volunteerism. To have new faces and personalities working together seamlessly was sometimes “maddening,” but in the end very fulfilling. Get to know the PMA Mid-Atlantic officers.
