530 Golfers at Four District Outings. So What?

The Twin Cities, Cleveland, West Michigan and Chicago Districts held their annual golf outings last month. Together, 538 golfers participated, with well over 600 participants from member companies, nonmembers, partners and staff. And as we saw at the May Tennessee outing, more and more PMA districts are coming up with creative ways to bring workforce awareness to their outings.

Twin Cities featured the Director of Apprenticeships, Minnesota Department of Labor during its executive roundtable breakfast prior to tee-off, while Forest Lake High School welding and metal fabrication instructor provided an update on the school and the assistance that PMA Twin Cities was able to provide.

West Michigan showcased its sponsorship of a local robotics team, Comets 3357. The COMETS are a STEM-oriented team of Forest Hills high schoolers and adult mentors that design, build and compete with robots in the annual FIRST Robotics Competition challenges. The COMETS recently won the West Michigan District event as the 1st seed alliance captains along with their amazing partners 27 Team RUSH and 4855 Ramageddon.

Both Chicago and Cleveland recognized their spring scholarship recipients during the awards portion of their outings. Chicago also celebrated its 30th golf outing.

It should come as no surprise that districts are doing more to acknowledge their workforce efforts at golf outings. Outings are the number one fundraisers for supporting local programs and initiatives. Having recognition at the outings and demonstrating accomplishments is the best way of saying thanks to the golfers, sponsors and partners that make each outing a success.
