METALFORM EDU Case Study: Larson Tool & Stamping Company

Case Summary

Looking to replace outdated DVD/VHS training materials, Larson Tool & Stamping Company turned to METALFORM EDU for a modern, interactive way to train new hires and upskill existing employees.

Why METALFORM EDU?

Larson Tool & Stamping Company’s president, Chuck Cederberg, was one of the key PMA Educational Foundation Board of Trustee members responsible for bringing METALFORM EDU to the metalforming industry. Through his involvement, Larson has taken part in every step of METALFORM EDU, from idea to reality.

HR Manager Bill Jordan wanted to incorporate METALFORM EDU into Larson’s existing training program to create a more interactive and modern way to present information to the company’s workforce. Before METALFORM EDU, Larson used a combination of DVDs, paper handouts, VHS tapes and mentoring to train employees. METALFORM EDU’s format made it easier for employees to learn and review/update their current knowledge on specific processes/technologies before heading to the shop floor for mentoring.

Results of METALFORM EDU Implementation

With 13 percent of Larson’s employees using METALFORM EDU—half of those are new employees—METALFORM EDU is providing quicker and more effective training. The company uses METALFORM EDU to train new press operators to understand terminology, safety, operation and quality standards before they work with senior operators on the shop floor.

Larson already has seen improved communication and teamwork between new and senior employees. By receiving standard training and terminology, all employees, regardless of their experience, are effectively able to understand procedures and troubleshoot.
