The PMA Lone Star District has been on a roll since reinvigorating its leadership at the end of 2022. From an ambitious Workforce Panel and Tour of Collins College to a behind-the-scenes plant tour of All Metals Fabricating, the growing team of volunteer leaders has the district on track to impacting the Texas metalforming community. Its latest accomplishment took place on April 11, when the district hosted its first golf tournament fundraiser in nearly 10 years, which also included an executive roundtable held prior to the tournament.

Highlights from the Executive Roundtable
It was a bright and sunny morning at the Bear Creek Golf Course when more than 20 executives met to discuss challenges impacting local manufacturers at the Lone Star District Executive Roundtable, held prior to a shotgun start to the district’s annual golf tournament fundraiser. Facilitated by district Membership Chair Tahitta Diaz of Principal Financial, and keynote speaker Scott Walton of PMA Member Savings partner Harbour Results, attendees engaged in a lively exchange of ideas and insights on workforce-related topics, the economics of local manufacturing, and how companies can set themselves apart through lean practices and leadership. PMA president David Klotz, along with past PMA chair Ron Lowry of Dayton Rogers Manufacturing, also were in attendance to provide perspective from the national level.
Highlights from the Tournament
After the roundtable, attendees met up with other golfers to complete the field of nearly 50 players. They enjoyed a networking lunch and then took to the links for an afternoon on one of the best courses in Dallas.
The on-course competition was especially brisk as golfers were able to see their competitors’ scores in real-time, thanks to an app provided by the course.
Beyond competing for best score, golfers had the chance to win prizes for longest drive and closest to the pin. And thanks to generous contributions from tournament sponsors, attendees participated in on-course raffles and activities.
The tournament was tightly contested, but when the dust cleared and the divots replaced, at the post-golf awards dinner the winning team of Jody Fledderman, Ron Lowry, Mike Ingalls and Brian Murphy took home first place with a score of 12-under.
But possibly a more coveted award, unique to the Lone Star District, was the Skunk Trophy, awarded to the team having the dubious distinction of worst score.
The Lone Star outing marked the kickoff to the 2023 PMA district golf season. Every district offers a unique experience. Check out the 2023 district golf and events calendar here.
