Gerardo Rios has been interested in metalworking since his first introduction to a Haas lathe and mill. During his time in metals manufacturing in high school, he was taught how precise a piece of metal can be and that regardless how hard a material is anything can be done. 
Gerardo felt amazing working on the mill for the first time squaring off his first one-inch block, and realizing that with trial and error, metal can be turned into anything that one can imagine. He also enjoyed learning from his instructor Mr. Wooten. Now attending Universal Technical Institute in Mooresville, NC, Gerardo is gaining more expertise from instructors who worked in the field
Gerardo looks forward to continuing to learn the trade and have a rewarding career so that he is able to help his mom and three younger sisters, and work toward his goal of owning his own home. This scholarship allows Gerardo and his family to be financially comfortable and helps him pay off his student debt.
