Recognizing Generational Leadership – Anna Krzak

get to know the next generation of district leaders

Anna Krzak – District Administrator, PMA East Michigan

Human Resources Manager, E&E Manufacturing

“I always like a challenge…”

Anna began her leadership as PMA East Michigan district administrator in 2017, soon after she was promoted to human resources manager at E&E Manufacturing. CFO Brian Swanson encouraged her, as a way to network in the industry. “Though I had not really thought about a volunteer position, I always like a challenge, and after being involved in the PMA HR Roundtable and Training Managers Roundtable, I thought it was a great opportunity,” says Anna. “As the administrator, I could promote the association while getting to know higher-level decision makers.”

Having an HR background helps her in her administrative role. “To succeed at this position requires organization and attention to detail,” says Anna. “Being part of a team with a mix of experiences and backgrounds keeps you on your feet. Our district’s personality is easy-going but also determined.”

Everyone’s voice is heard

“Something I love about our district is that everyone brings a unique perspective to the table and that everyone’s voice is heard,” Anna continues. “It has been awesome to gain experience organizing events and promoting them. As much fun as we have organizing fundraising activities, we take them seriously, whether it’s axe throwing at a social night, a golf outing, or the scholarship program. We always want strong participation.”

District Involvement Leads to So Much More

Serving as administrator, and with a human resources background, Anna has had no shortage of opportunities to collaborate across the association. “PMA has a strong human resources community, and I’ve been a part of the groups and activities for a while. My involvement has led to other opportunities, in particular, taking part in testing PMA’s METALFORM EDU’s safety module. It’s projects like these where you can make a difference, and the association always needs member input.”

A Better Leader. A Better Manager

To complement her role as administrator, another focus for Anna has been her participation in the PMA Management Development Academy. She has had a positive experience and has enjoyed the mix of young professionals and more seasoned industry professionals. “The first part of the course was a refresher on HR best practices,” Anna said. “Then we dug deeper into logistics, understanding metrics within organizations, and how to communicate with various job roles. I would recommend this for anyone who is looking to be a better leader and manager.”

Social Media and HR Groups Attract the Next Generation

When asked about her use of social media, Anna attests to leveraging Facebook and Instagram and ads on social media platforms to support hiring young professionals. She recommends leveraging reviews and testimonials to promote our message and use social to reach a broader audience.

“Regarding hiring, we have also been using the PMA Human Resources Discussion Group to share ideas on a daily basis. It’s a great tool that you can’t find anywhere else.” Anna says she would love to generate more awareness for the Human Resources Discussion Group and other resources that PMA provides. She has noticed younger people joining the group, and noted that the feedback received has been wonderful.
