Luke Jostes, a scholarship recipient from the Lone Star District, developed an interest in manufacturing and machining when he earned his Welding Merit Badge through the Boy Scouts. That experience introduced him to welding and fabrication while showing him the satisfaction that comes from hands-on work. From that point forward, he knew he wanted to pursue a career that would allow him to solve problems, work with his hands and create something tangible. Welding particularly captured his interest because it combines precision, patience and technical skill while also allowing room for creativity and craftsmanship.

Luke’s short-term goal is to work in a fabrication-focused environment as a professional welder, where he can continue developing his technical abilities and further refine his TIG welding skills. He is eager to learn from experienced professionals, take on increasingly challenging projects and improve both the quality and efficiency of his work. He values workplaces that emphasize safety, craftsmanship and continuous improvement and looks forward to growing within such an environment.

In the long term, Luke aspires to become a highly skilled and dependable welder known for producing quality work and solving complex fabrication challenges. He hopes to build a reputation based on integrity, reliability and excellence in craftsmanship. Eventually, Luke would like to start his own business, applying the knowledge and experience he gains throughout his career to serve industries such as automotive, offshore and potentially aerospace manufacturing. His goal is to establish a company recognized for quality workmanship and professional service.

One of Luke’s most significant accomplishments has been earning the rank of Eagle Scout. Through scouting, he developed leadership skills, self-discipline and a strong work ethic that continues to guide him today. These experiences taught him the value of responsibility, perseverance and service to others while helping prepare him for success in both his educational and professional pursuits.

In addition to his scouting achievements, Luke has earned certifications in gas-shielded welding and entry-level welding. He remains committed to furthering his education and plans to pursue additional certifications as he advances within the welding profession. His dedication to technical excellence reflects his desire to continually improve his abilities and remain competitive within the manufacturing industry.

Since August 2024, Luke has worked at Walmart, where he has developed a variety of transferable skills that support his future career goals. Through this experience, he has strengthened his abilities in teamwork, time management, leadership, problem-solving and workplace safety. These skills complement his technical training and will serve him well in manufacturing and welding environments where collaboration and reliability are essential.

Luke’s commitment to the skilled trades, willingness to overcome challenges and dedication to personal and professional growth distinguish him as an outstanding future welding professional. He takes pride in completing tasks correctly, continuously learning and setting a positive example for those around him. His passion for welding and strong work ethic position him for a successful and rewarding career in manufacturing.
