Troy Stucke, a recipient from the Ohio Valley District, has recently completed his fifth semester at Wright State University Lake Campus, where he is pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Prior to attending college, he enrolled at Tri Star Career Compact and completed the two-year Engineering Technology program. After his first year at Tri Star, he realized that mechanical engineering was the career path he wanted to pursue. Over the next several years, Troy plans to earn his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering while completing all four years of study at the Lake Campus. He intends to use his degree to secure a job in the local area, as he recognizes the strong demand for skilled mechanical engineers among regional businesses.
Throughout his academic career, Troy has been actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America, eventually achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest award in scouting earned by only a small percentage of participants. To reach this rank, scouts must progress through six previous ranks, each requiring approximately six hours of community service. Through scouting, Troy participated in numerous service projects, including assisting churches, cleaning up litter, organizing food donation efforts and helping local schools. These experiences helped him develop leadership skills, a strong work ethic and a commitment to serving his community.
During his senior year of high school, Troy began a cooperative education position at Nidec Minster. Fortunately, he has been able to continue working there while attending classes at Wright State Lake Campus. Over the course of three years with the company, he has gained experience in a variety of manufacturing and design-related areas. Nidec Minster has provided him with valuable opportunities by rotating him through different departments each year. As a result, he has worked with teams involved in press design, research and welding operations.
Currently, Troy works in the press design group, where one of his responsibilities involves collaborating with colleagues in Spain to prepare Minster for the production of Spanish-designed presses. Using Spanish CAD software, he reviews and completes unfinished major assemblies sent from Spain and creates layout drawings that illustrate every component within an assembly. Occasionally, when visiting the assembly floor, he sees his name displayed on the layout sheets. This gives him a strong sense of pride, knowing that something he designed on a computer has become a physical component that will be used on a press for many years. Troy plans to continue working at Nidec Minster throughout his college career and hopes to secure a full-time position with the company after graduation.
Troy is an excellent candidate for the Precision Metalforming Association Educational Foundation (PMAEF) scholarship because of his commitment to advancing his engineering education, as demonstrated through his academic achievements, leadership experiences and dedication to community service. His strong work ethic, practical engineering experience and desire to continue learning position him well for success in his academic and professional endeavors.
