PMA is seeking applications from industry experts interested in presenting at the educational conference to be held in conjunction with the 2010 FABTECH tradeshow, scheduled for November 2-4, in Atlanta, GA. See additional details, including the list of categories in which applications are being accepted, and apply online by March 5.
PMA’s Design Guidelines, Fourth Edition is now available! This newly retooled edition describes manufacturing processes so you may better understand the advantages and limitations of metalforming, emphasizing design considerations and values that will lead to realistic product expectations. This edition takes you step-by-step through the planning process and provides guidance in key areas of design and specification where general information is lacking. This is a must-have guide! Order yours today. Purchase 25 or more and receive a discount.
According to PMA’s January 2010 Business Conditions Report, metalforming companies are increasingly optimistic as the new year kicks off. Forty-five percent of participants expect an improvement in economic activity during the next three months (a jump from 28 percent in December). Additional details are available in PMA’s press release or by viewing the full report.
A sharp drop in December’s hot-rolled imports wrapped up a sluggish 2009 in which U.S. imports of hot- and cold-rolled steel combined fell 32 percent from the combined year-end levels of 2008. Total steel imports rose one percent from November to December, finishing off the year down 49 percent compared to 2008 total steel imports. Read PMA’s press release.
The PMA Educational Foundation is pleased to announce a newly developed and validated assessment designed to evaluate employment applicants that have no experience in metalworking. Modular in design, the 60-item, multiple-choice Occupational Aptitude and Knowledge Assessment covers mechanical and spatial aptitudes, mathematical reasoning and measurement, communications and information, and industry understanding and behaviors. See the press release or contact Bruce Broman for more information.
