ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING FOR TOOL AND DIE

  • Additive Manufacturing promises near-net shape processing of parts without a need for traditional tooling. While the direct manufacturing of parts from powder or wire can speed up development and production times, similar advantages can also be obtained from rapid manufacturing of tooling inserts, molds, dies, etc. using additive manufacturing. The state of the additive manufacturing efforts for tool and die production will be reviewed. Challenges and opportunities will be highlighted from basic and applied perspectives.
