Virtual Seminar

This five-part virtual seminar covers everything you need to know about stamping higher-strength steels. It consists of five two-hour seminars hosted by five industry experts. Registration includes all five parts.

Key topics—You need to understand these topics when dealing with higher-strength steels.

  • The origin and effect of elastic and plastic stress and strain
  • The effect that different mechanical properties have on different forming modes
  • Corrective measures for springback, dimensional variation, heat and friction that increase as yield strength increases
  • Proper pressroom equipment selection
  • Special process considerations for correcting coil defects and managing springback
  • Applying the science of lubrication to your advantage
  • Using data to drive lubricant decisions
  • Welding higher-strength steels

INSTRUCTORS

Jeff Gerken, Manager of Mechanical Engineering, Automatic Feed Company
JeffJeff Gerken has managed mechanical engineering at Automatic Feed Company for more than 20 years. Along with his management responsibilities, Jeff also plays a key role in determining advanced technical directives for machinery design and global marketing strategies. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toledo and an MBA from Bowling Green State University.

Jeff Jeffery, CEO, IRMCO
JeffJeff Jeffery is the CEO of IRMCO, a global 105-year-old privately owned firm based just north of Chicago in Evanston, IL. He worked alongside chemical engineer Arthur Dampts to develop the industry’s first deep-drawing synthetic lubricant more than 30 years ago. Today, IRMCO and Jeff are dedicated to taking cost out of metal stamping operations with new technology.

Ray Michelena, Safety Director/Seminar Instructor, T. J. Snow Company
RayRay Michelena has more than 20 years of experience with resistance welding.  As one of T. J. Snow Company’s resistance welding seminar instructors and service techs, he travels to metalworking plants nationwide. He also is the company’s safety director and chief pilot.

Daniel J. Schaeffler, Ph.D., President, Engineering Quality Solutions, Inc. and Chief Content Officer, 4M Partners, LLC
DannyDanny Schaeffler has spent his 30-year career focusing on materials selection for sheet metal product applications, stamping tooling buyoff, hands-on formability analyses, and manufacturing process improvement. He is the founder and president of Engineering Quality Solutions and is passionate about training new and experienced employees at manufacturing companies about how sheet metal properties impact their forming success.

Danny wrote PMA’s MetalForming magazine column, The Science of Forming, for four years, and now writes the Metal Matters monthly column. Through his other company, 4M Partners, Danny wrote and published “Sheet Metal Forming—Engineering and Business Management.” He serves on the SAE International Steel Sheet and Strip Specifications Committee and is past president of the North American Deep Drawing Research Group. Danny also is the Metallurgy and Forming Technical Editor of the WorldAutoSteel Advanced High Strength Steel Application Guidelines.

Peter Ulintz, Technical Director, Precision Metalforming Association
PetePeter Ulintz worked in the metal stamping and tool and die industries for 37 years prior to joining PMA in 2015 as technical director. His background includes tool and die making, die processing and design, engineering management, and product development. Peter speaks regularly at PMA technical seminars and conferences. He is past president of the North American Deep Drawing Research Group, and authors the Tooling by Design column in MetalForming magazine.
